Following a career change, I had recently qualified as a copywriter.  I decided to sign up for the Mentor programme, as I hadn’t a clue how to get started!  I hadn’t written a CV in years and didn’t know how to market myself.  I needed some expert help.

Cleland helped me to produce a punchy CV and a great covering letter and also gave advice on how and whom to approach.  He critiqued my articles before submission and gave advice on how I could find a niche for myself, in this very competitive market.

I have already had a couple of articles published and I’m not stopping there! It’s given me the confidence to re-brand myself and go out there and compete amongst the best!

Linda_preston.jpgI signed up for the Gold Standard Mentor Scheme as l felt I needed a bit more help with my journalism career.

Cleland really pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to contact a new weekly paper in my home town.

He suggested I call in to introduce myself to the editor and take in a story that I’d written. I was shaking. I thought that at any minute the editor would realise I was not a real writer.

But the paper was happy to print this story and many more over the following months.

Since then I’ve had worked published in several magazines and newspapers and forged a link with a press agency that feeds national newspapers and magazines.

Last month, a story of mine made it to The Sun Online, The Daily Mail Online and Page 15 of The Times.
