BRIAN THOMPSON

I work full time so this distance learning really appealed to me. The course was interesting and I have learned so much from it.

If I had a query, I emailed and got a response back almost right away, and the course content was interesting and covered a lot of areas

Hopefully I have developed a better writing style and more about the legal side of journalism. I would definitely recommend a friend.

geoff.jpgFor me the CTJT freelance journalism course has proved an excellent investment.

Perhaps my situation was different to some. I started my career as a journalist, but then spent many years working mainly in public relations.

Now I want to earn most of my living from journalism again, particularly in travel writing and in writing about military history.

The 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain is coming up in 2010 and that is an area where I have done much research, including interviewing several hundred of the men who took part.

My main reasons for enrolling on the freelance journalism course were:

1) To improve/update my pitching skills

2) To let an outsider comment on my writing styles/approach to situations, etc. You can get into ruts and a refresher can be very useful.

I was very satisfied with the way things went. There was much that I learnt as well as much that would be useful to a beginner.

Cleland was a most attentive tutor and I now have a tremendous file of reference material. I thought that the cost was very reasonable.

I had already had work published of course, but I can certainly see the benefits of the course.

For example, I currently have a national newspaper and a national magazine considering giving me assignments, after I had pitched to them using Cleland's approach/advice.

Author of A Dictionary of the Battle of Britain, a 160 page A4 hardback published by Halsgrove, in association with the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust in October 2009 at £19.99. The Battle of Britain explained from “Aces” to “Women’s Auxiliary Air Force”.

Phil Hilton

investigative journalism e-course, testimonial imageI decided that I needed to learn the discipline of writing.

With this in mind I enrolled on the CTJT Freelance journalism course.

Having studied in the past in the conventional manner, I found the online approach both refreshing, as well as an improvement.

Having your tutor just an email away is an amazing feeling.

I liked being in complete control of my own time management.

I took the course at my own pace.

The course modules are very well structured and make learning a pleasure.

The tuition and feedback is of the highest quality and there is no free ride.

To make the grades you do have to put the work in, but with this course the work in question was always such a positive experience.

I learned all of the foundation I needed to start work as a freelance journalist.

It is a course which teaches the basics you need in order to become a success, as long as you are prepared to put the work in.

I received my diploma in April 2007 and as I write this, I am in the process of reviewing a book and interviewing its author. I am also arranging an interview with an American singer songwriter who is about to go on tour with a big name group.

As well as conducting another interview this week with up and coming group Miccoli who recently released their first album.

None of this would have been possible without the coaching, encouragement and common sense no nonsense approach of Cleland Thom and all the staff at CTJT.
