This course is an effective and inexpensive way of equipping senior staff to solve complex legal problems quickly and safely.

It can be done in the office, or at home, in a several one-hour sessions. Media law trainer and consultant Cleland Thom will be your personal tutor.

You will receive an accredited diploma to put on your CV and in your portfolio.

Entry requirements

The course is for anyone who needs to sharpen their awareness of media legal dangers.

  • dangers to be aware  of

  • how to legal copy effectively

  • helping journalists and photographers in the field - issues with police, courts etc

  • handling injunctions interventions by PCC and solicitors

  • dealing with complaints

Duration and hours

The course takes around 4 hours. You can work at your own pace and fit your studies around your job and other commitments.

Your tutor
 
Your tutor will be Cleland Thom, legal blogger for the Press Gazette. He is legal adviser to magazines, newspapers, websites and broadcasters across the UK and has trained more than 2,000 journalists in media law.

They include directors, editors, producers and editorial staff from all the UK's top media groups.

Assessment

You will be set some assignments to send in for marking and assessment.

The assessment will include tips and advice on how to improve the way you work.
