Many students and reporters find it hard to pass the NCTJ Preliminary Exams.

Now you can be properly prepared! Our online coaching course provides you with personal training for the exams, whether you are sitting them for the first time, or re-sitting them.

The course has a 100 per cent success rate. It has proved particularly helpful for 'lost causes' - people who have failed an exam three or more times. We have had a number of people who have come to us in this position. And every single one of them has passed!

The course provides:
  • Detailed instruction on the structure of each exam and useful tips and techniques on how to pass them.
  • Updates on law, PA and ethical matters.
  • Four mock exams in each subject. These will be marked to exam standard and returned with detailed feedback, advice and instruction, so the trainee can make genuine progress in each subject.
  • Unlimited online advice from one of the country's leading journalism trainers.
  • Tips on how to do well on the day.

The coaching will be personal, detailed and on-going and need not take up a great deal of your time. It will give you the best possible chance of passing the exams at the first attempt - or the resits.

You can enrol to study any of the exams, or all of them.

  • Is this a proper course?

Yes, we are recognised by the UK Government and are fully accredited.

  • How long will the course take?

It's up to you. You can work at your own speed, and fit your studies around your other commitments. And it depends on how many subjects you are re-sitting. You should allow around three hours a week for your studies during the two months before the exam(s).

  • Who is my tutor?

Your tutor will be Cleland Thom, who is recognised as one of the UK's leading trainers for the NCTJ exams. Find out about him.

  • Is there any tutorial support?

Yes, you can email your tutor any time - as often as you need to. This is really helpful in the run-up to the exams. We guarantee to respond within two working days, although it is usually much quicker. We will phone you if there is an issue that cannot be dealt with by email.

  • What equipment do I need?

Access to your own computer, with internet facilities and a microphone, Microsoft Word software (or equivalent), and an email account.

  • What if I am disabled?

Not a problem - see Equal Opportunities.

  • Are there any time limits or deadlines?

    No.

  • How much is the course?

PA 1, PA 2, Law 1, Law 2, Portfolio, News Writing: £100 each.

The fee covers all teaching material and tutor support.

  • How do I pay?

    See Payment Options.

  • Are instalments available?

    No.

  • When can I start?

Any time you like - straight away if you want to!

  • How do I enrol?

Download a form and post it to us with the payment.

  • Do I have to sign anything?

Yes, we ask you to accept our Student Learning Agreement. This is binding on you - and us, so we both know where we stand. Please read the SLA carefully before you enrol.
