Two CTJT Magazine journalism students have won national awards after securing jobs at leading publications.
Chris Barraclough and Ian Shine have been presented with Certificates of Merit by the Association of British Correspondence Colleges.
The awards are given to distance learning students who have performed exceptionally well on their courses.
CTJT was asked to nominate its top two - and director Cleland Thom had no hesitation in nominating Chris and Ian.
The nominations were verified by the ABCC's council last month.
Both Chris and Ian did the CTJT magazine journalism course to facilitate a career change and passed the necessary NCTJ exams.
Now Chris works on What Laptop and Ian on the Travel Trade Gazette
They both passed the necessary NCTJ exams. Ian studied in Poland, and achieved one of the highest marks in the UK for his law exam in April 2010.
Cleland said: 'We are so proud of them both. They have shown what can be achieved through distance learning.
'Chris and Ian both studied alongside their jobs, and both fulfilled their dreams.
'The awards show how our courses can provide fantastic career changes for people who would normally not be able to consider them.'
Cleland added: 'At a time when the cost of university journalism courses is set to rocket, distance learning is leading the way in providing inexpensive and effective education.
'We are so thrilled to have been able to help.'
ABCC seceretary Heather Owen said: 'We would like to congratulate Chris and Ian on their achievements.
'Hopefully they will inspire others to explore what distance learning can do for them.'
