NCTJ Sports journalism diploma student secures work deal

NCTJ Sports journalism diploma student Mark Smith has been appointed to write the sports content for the Prague Post, in the Czech Republic.

Mark approached the editor of the English-speaking title with article ideas after covering matches for them for two years.

But the editor responded by offering Mark the chance to write all the paper's sports copy.

Mark tells us: 'Now I do some research during the week on the big sports stories a suggest a few ideas to the editor.

'We agree on a story on Friday each week and I send the final copy on Sunday evening to be published on the Wednesday.'

He added: 'I also update all of the scores/results/league tables for the sports page too.

'So far I have suggested some interviews and profile pieces on Klara Spilkova (golfer), Martin Staszko (CZ poker player) and Theo Gebre Salissee (first black player to represent CZ).

'Its a great feeling to see the paper each week, I am probably the first person to pick up a copy every week!'

See Mark's work
