Chris Charles

Chris Charles is a former BBC journalist with over 20 years' experience specialising in music and sport.
led one-to-one with Margaret Thatcher.
His BBC career began as a freelance on teletext service Ceefax and after leaving for a two-year stint at the Press Association, he returned to set up the Ceefax music pages from scratch, reviewing the latest releases and gigs, interviewing the stars of the day and having reviews featured in assorted publications.
He then moved on to BBC News Online where he became the chief music writer, covering the Glastonbury and Reading festivals many times.
During an early Coldplay appearance he identified them as a stadium band of the future in a piece recently quoted by Lauren Laverne on 6 Music.
He also worked with the station on their 30th anniversary of punk special, while his not-so-favourable critique of a Corrs album earned him the Review of the Week in The Guardian.
The last few years have seen him working for BBC Sport Online where he had two very successful blogs pulling in excess of 300,000 unique users a week.
