Cleland Thom

Cleland Thom is recognised as one of the UK's leading corporate media, journalism and communications trainers.
His clients include many Footsie 100 and Fortune 500 companies, as well as renowned media, educational, governmental and non-profit institutions.
He is a member of the Society of Editors, and sits on the Chartered Institute of Journalists' Professional Practices Committee.
He is also a guest blogger for the Press Gazette and has trained editors and journalists from all the UK's key media groups:
Since 2003, he has also been legal adviser to the Manchester Evening News,The Government and Public Sector Journal, United Utilities, the Local Radio Company, Manchester Electronic Media and Cascade News. And he has also trained some leading celebrities and VIPs.
Cleland has been involved in media and communication for the whole of his career.
He was group editor and senior executive of nine UK regional paper titles in London and was appraised as being their ‘best all-round editor for nearly 50 years’ and for having ‘outstanding commercial awareness and marketing skills’.
His campaigns as an editor were featured in the Guardian, the Daily Mail and on Channel 4.
His paper´s coverage of the first Gulf War was voted as the best in the UK by the Kuwait daily paper the Voice of Kuwait and was praised by President Bush Senior and Margaret Thatcher.
Cleland was also known as a leading investigative journalist. He has worked on investigative assignments for the Sunday Mirror, the News of the World and the regional press.
His 25-year investigation and campaign to free two men wrongly convicted of a double murder was nationally acclaimed and was featured in the Press Gazette, on an ITV documentary and on BBC 2's Rough Justice.
He worked on an expose of an alleged ticket scam at Chelsea FC and investigated a fraud by a London landlord which resulted in one man going to prison.
Another investigation into corruption in the Haringey Emergency Corps also resulted in another man going to prison.
He holds the National Council for the Training of Journalists National Certificate, the Certificate of Education from La Sainte Union College for Higher Education, Grade 8 qualifications in Speech and Drama and Public Speaking from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and is a qualified NVQ assessor, and an NVQ Moderator.
Cleland is a member of the Society of Editors and the Chartered Institute of Journalists.
He ran the highly successful NCTJ course at Highbury College, Portsmouth, for 10 years.
He has done freelance work for all the national daily and Sunday papers and for magazines, local radio and television.
